MIRPS
The future of sensitive video material recording has arrived. MIRPS is a unique system designed to record, playback, and intelligently store stereoscopic (3D) and regular media feeds. An all-in-one solution, MIRPS has been built around a proprietary media codec and file format designed for very flexible functionality and with absolute security in mind. MIRPS can be further expanded by adding the optional MIRPS Telestrator Station for remote viewing and educational uses and the MIRPS Remote System Controller for ground zero location system control.
Development
The Medical Imaging Recording and Playback System (MIRPS) is the product of years of development. Created by a team effort of medical, telecommunications, broadcast, and media industry professionals, it was originally designed, and still widely used, for surgeries performed with robotic surgery equipment, the system is the most advanced, and yet easy to use, on the market today. The idea was to take the best and most secure technologies from each industry and use them to create a product surpassing the abilities of any one sphere.
Recording
The proprietary codec designed for use exclusively for MIRPS has a number of advantages over other codecs. The streamed stereoscopic video feed is encoded and recorded in real time, with virtually no extra encoding time needed. This means that if a user needs to have instant playback, it is available. The system also records stereoscopic video, creating a multifunctional file which allows for more flexibility and usability than regular video files.
Security
MIRPS is simple to use, yet very complex and robust under the hood. It has been designed with a proprietary codec designed to hard encode a 128-bit encryption key into the video material. The keys are stored only on USB security dongles. This means that nothing other than a system which has the specific hardware key matching the recording systems key can decode the video, nor the metadata inside. The visual and textual information stored in these files is absolutely secure. If needed, the recorded material can also be exported into a format readable by normal computer systems. MIRPS also includes an ultra-fast array of 24 enterprise class hard drives, configured in RAID 5 or 6 so all information is safe in case of environmental problems or hardware failure. The system can also be configured for off-site backup to guard against force majeure events.
Metadata
Each recording project has a metadata component which is filled out by the user. For example, in medical applications, the patients name, diagnosis, planned operation, blood type, etc. are all metadata inputs in addition to the normal ones such as time, data and file length. MIRPS goes one step farther, though, allowing for the near unlimited input of custom metadata fields. The security of the metadata is second to none, due to the metadata being encrypted into each individual video file, rather than one massive database file. Once stored in the video file, this metadata is searchable, but only available to be read by an authorized system, and the entire video library can be quickly and easily accessed to find tagged video material. This feature protects patient security and enhances system stability.
Playback
Due to the custom built codec, there is never any delay present in system playback, even when scrubbing through a large file. In addition, the system has been equipped with a custom bookmark system, making snapping to different parts of a video file intelligent and instantaneous. The bookmark system has been designed to give the user an intelligent way to move an audience through the playback, reducing wasted time and highlighting important areas of the recorded material. The system records full 3D stereoscopic or 2D video, and which can be played back with no loss of quality or any lag. The viewer can choose to view the files in stereoscopic 3d or individual left or right channels for 2D viewing capability.
MIRPS Telestrator Station
MIRPS is not just a one terminal recording system. With the optional MIRPS Telestrator Station, offsite viewing for review or for lecturing facilities is made easy. Its unique abilities allow it to stream previously recorded material in either stereoscopic or single channel format. The ideal setup is with an optical line between the operational and the viewing area, or with a dedicated secure IP. As a teaching tool, this is second to none, as the viewing location does not need to be tied to the main MIRPS station, thereby allowing for an operation to be performed at one location, while an audience can later watch in another. As the system is equipped with an HD SDI output, high quality 3D cinema projectors or televisions are ideal for viewing purposes. MIRPS Telestrator Station also allows for non-destructive notation and drawing on the video material through the use of the dedicated professional grade control tablet, allowing a lecturer or remote viewing team to indicate precisely what they are referencing without any additional tools necessary.
MIRPS Remote System Controller
MIRPS can be paired with a dedicated medical grade tablet, which allows the system to be remotely controlled. This dedicated tablet has full remote interface functionality, the ability to start and stop recording, enter metadata, and provides real time useful system status information. This is an excellent resource, as MIRPS, instead of being controlled by an offsite controller, may be handled by an on-site assistant, for example, a surgical assistant in the operating room, making surgeon requests both instant and easy.
Medical Uses
MIRPS was designed with medical applications in mind, as the medical industry requires the highest standards for security, stability, and reliability. The system can record and stream stereoscopic robotic surgeries with absolute patient security, ensuring that only authorized people will ever be able to view the recorded video. The paired medical grade tablet can be taken into the operating room to provide real time control over the system without the need of the main MIRPS system to be on site.
Laboratory Uses
For laboratory experiments, including highly dangerous manipulation of materials, such as explosives or viral agents, MIRPS is ideal for recording procedures in an organized manner. As lab experiments and studies thrive on information, a visual recording of the events with the unlimited ability for metadata addition and the ability to include remote locations to the laboratory team in real time, with absolute security, is priceless.
Insurance and Security Purposes
MIRPS due to its stability, security, and robust storage options, is perfect for use as a recording system for sensitive locations with a dedicated camera feed. As the information is not able to be tampered with, nor even viewed without the appropriate encryption key, MIRPS is ideal for on-site video monitoring and recording, and can be configured for automatic off-site backup, again, only viewable with the appropriate encryption key.
